We are in full swing of the 2023 legislative session and the LCB agency request legislation regarding equity SB 5080 has already had a committee hearing in the Senate. While this piece of legislation is a good first step, there is quite a bit of work to still be done. The Social Equity in Cannabis Task Force presented their Final Report in December 2022 and the work is just beginning.
We are a month into recruiting for our Equity Policy Grant. This $15,000 grant will be awarded to one recipient who has proposed a specific piece of legislation to address infrastructure and equity needs in Washington state cannabis. The recipient will have a year to engage in stakeholder feedback, coalition building, and to find sponsorship. In that time, the recipient will be supported with the full backing of The Cannabis Alliance, our legislative team, and our partnerships.
In December, we launched the effort with a reception sponsored by Leafly and Dockside Cannabis. We enjoyed community discussion, fellowship, and some awesome food truck hand pies. We’d also like to thank The Prohibition Bar for providing a location to gather!
